Edward Mawley (E.M.) lived in a house called Rosebank down the hill from the Pearsons of Millfield. Rosebank is still there alongside Grantham Mews, the roads that are above the deep railway cutting off Gravel Path. The house was originally named Sunnyside House.
The addressee of Edward’s postcard, Miss Irene (Margaret) Pearson, was the unmarried daughter of the owner of Millfield, Mrs Emily Pearson. Millfield was the small estate situated above Sunnyside/Rosebank.
The postcard shows quite an elaborate weather station, with a note: Very many thanks for the pretty Bulldog Calendar. E.M.
